Sales SC Fall 0.8% last December
Estimated Total SC Sales Figure Totals 2,823.9 Billion Yen
(Up 1.8 Compared with Same Month of Previous Year)
Sales of previously established shopping centers fell 0.8% in December for the first time in three months when compared with figures for the same month of the previous year.
Many developers blame the drop on the unseasonal warm weather and competition from newly opened shopping centers in addition to lease termination by some tenants.
Shopping center sales for the same month of the preceding year similarly having recorded a fall of 1.0 percent due to a mild winter, the results for the December month remain bleak for a second consecutive year.
Classification by tenant type reveals most businesses claiming unfavorable results are women's apparel tenants.
Figures for anchor tenants' sales equally point to women's clothing and fresh food products as factors contributing to these unfavorable results.
