Report on the Monthly Sales Statistical Survey of Shopping Centers
  April 2007

Sales SC See1.1%Fall this April.
Estimated Total SC Sales Figure Totals2,196.5Billion Yen.
(Up5.0%Compared with Same Month Last Year)

Outlook

Sales of previously established shopping centers fell1.1%in April for a second consecutive month when compared with figures for the same month last year.
Though similarly to last month, large‐scale renewals of shopping centers continued to boost overall sales, those of existing shopping centers dropped as a result of competition generated by a total of30shopping centers newly opened in March and April.
Events benefited sales whereas tenants terminating their lease had a negative effect.
Classification by tenant type revealed a pattern similar to the previous month with many shopping center developers stressing the key role played by women's apparel and the food and drink businesses.
Other tenants claiming favorable results were service‐related stores whereas jewelry shops and watch stores reported unfavorable figures.
A large number of shopping centers saw good results among their anchor tenants, notably the fresh food and processed foodstuffs stores.
