Japan Council of Shopping Centers (JCSC) has established Japan SC Awards in commemoration of the 30th anniversary of its founding.
The awards intend to contribute to a further advancement of the SC industry by honoring those SC indicative of the future SC image and social function.
The awards will be awarded every 2 years.
The following provisions will be considered as the main criteria:
JCSC established a new award named "Local Community Contribution SC Awards" from this year. The Awards were elected on the base of "Guidelines on contribution of SC to the local community" (were drawn up in January 2007). Especially the best Local Community Contribution SC was presented the “Kurahashi Yoshio Prize”.
(About the Kurahashi Yoshio Prize;
Mr.Yoshio Kurahashi developed SC such as "Tamagawa Takashimaya Shopping Center" which was the first full-fledged SC in Japan. He made efforts to establish JCSC and was installed as the 2nd chairman of JCSC on May 1989.Mr. Kurahashi always acted in the belief that SC is a community facility to satisfy the various needs of the residents, and SC can not succeed unless it cooperate with the local community. He died on August 2003 at the age of 89. JCSC established the Kurahashi Yoshio Prize this year. The aim of this prize is to commend a SC that contributed greatly to the local community. )
